Abstract
Se realizó un estudio descriptivo de la mortalidad por causas externas en la población argentina, chilena y colombiana durante el período 2000-2008. Se analizaron las muertes por homicidios, suicidios y accidentes de tránsito, en función de la edad y sexo. Se observó una reducción del riesgo de morir por estas causas en el segundo trienio. Hubo diferencias en la mortalidad por sexo y edad dependiendo la causa externa de muerte. Los mayores niveles de mortalidad correspondieron a los homicidios, seguidos por los accidentes de tránsito y por último lossuicidios. Se registró sobremortalidad masculina en los tres países seleccionados.
A descriptive study of mortality was conducted due to external causes in Argentinean, Chilean and Colombian population during the 2000-2008 period. Deaths caused by killings, suicides and traffic accidents were analyzed regarding sex and age. A reduction in the risk of death due to these causes was observed in the second three-year period. There were differences in the mortality rate by sex and age, depending on the external cause of death. The highest mortality levels belonged to the homicide, followed by the traffic accidents and the suicides. Male overmortality was registered in the three selected countries.
